2.5.3 - The Poles of the Previous Nations

In Cordoba, Shaykh Muhyiddin was honored with a great imaginal scene, Mashhad Barzakhi, in which he saw the group of the poles of the former nations, before Islam, from Adam to the time of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon them. He described them by their Arabic names, i.e. the meaning their characteristic names in Arabic:

As for the complete poles of the nations who are not in this nation (of Islam), who have preceded us in time, I have seen a group whose names were mentioned to me in the Arabic tongue when I saw them and witnessed them in the presence of Isthmus while I was in the city of Cordoba, in such a holy scene, and some of them are: al-Mufarriq, Mudaawi al-Kulإ¬m, al-Baakkaa, al-Murtafii, al-Shifaa, al-Maaؤ¥iq, al-Aaaqib, al-Manؤ¥إ¬r, Shaؤ¥r al-Maaa, Unsur al-ؤ¥ayaat, al-Shaariid, al-Raajii, al-Saanii, al-aayyaar, al-Saalim, al-Khalifah, al-Maqsum, al-ؤ¤ay, al-Raamy, al-Waasii, al-Baؤ¥r, al-Mulإ،iq, al-Haadi, al-Musliؤ¥, and al-Baaqiy. These complete (poles) were named for us from Adam to the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon them).

[Futuhat: I.151].

Perhaps it is from this scene and the like that Shaykh Muhyiddin wrote the narrations that he stated about such former poles in his famous book “al-Abadlah”, which we will talk about in section 6.5.1 in Chapter VI.
