6.4.4 - The Bahalil of Damascus

In chapter 44 of the Meccan Revelations [The Meccan Revelations: c. 1, pp. 247-249], the Shaykh, peace be upon him, talked at length about the Bahalil, and they are the so-called: the wise mad-men, who were not mad because of any illness or organic defect, but their madness was due to something from Allah Almighty that came to them suddenly so they did not understand and their minds were obscured from the world of witnessing. Accordingly, they manage their bodies with their animal spirit, without reasoning; so they eat, drink and behave according to their animal necessities. However, they often speak with wisdom although they have no knowledge of it, and they do not intend to advice to benefit others.
