6.4.3 - Some habits of the people of Damascus (Damascus)

\%Shaykh Muhyiddin says that what he noticed on some people in Damascus that they were greatly influenced by the customs of the people of dhimma, especially Christians, where they took some of them customs that were strange to Islam, such as blessing with the water of baptism as the Christians usually do in their churches. He said that most women in Damascus do so, and their men forgive them in that. They take the young boys to the church so that the priest blesses them and sprinkles them with the water of baptism, with the intention of being blessed. They also give the offerings to that. Shaykh Muhieddin adds that this is unacceptable in Islam, because it close to infidelity, and it is even the same as infidelity that should not be done by Muslims [The Meccan Revelations: c. 4, p. 491].
