1.5 - The Edited Text of the Fihrist

[At the top of page 188a, we find the hearing certificate by Sheikh Muhyiddin, that we mentioned its full text above, and then the Fihrist starts on page 188b:]

In the name of Allah, the Most-Merciful and the All-Merciful. Upon Him I depend, and from Him I seek help. May Allah bless Muhammad and his family and companions. My Lord, complete it with Your generosity!

Said our Sheikh, the Knowing Imam, the Supported Sole, who is prescribed with the mercy of his Lord, Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ali bin Muhammad bin Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Al-Arabi Al-Tā’i Al-Andalusi, may Allah be pleased with him and please him:

Praise be to Allah, and peace be upon His servants whom He had chosen, and after that I say:

Some of the brothers asked me to write down for him in these sheets all of what I have classified and composed in the way of realities and mysteries, in the path of Sufism, and in other than this art. Thus, I wrote down for him - may Allah conciliate him - in this "Fihris": "Index", of what he asked. However, some of these books that I shall mention here, God willing - and they are few - I had deposited them with someone for something that happened, and that person has not returned them to me until now [but we note that some of these deposited books do now exist, thanks to Allah Almighty, such as: (14) Kunhu mālā budda li-l-murīdi minhu, and (19) ʿUqlat al-mustawfiz, but still most of them are missing.] Therefore, all that is in the hands of people today is from those books we did not deposited with him, and some of which are complete - which is the most part - while some that are not yet completed - which is the less.

(I have to note that) I did not intend, in what I have authored, as what other authors usually intend to do, nor did I decided the composition, but some insights do descend upon me from Exalted Real that almost burnt me up; so I tried to diverge away by writing what is possible of it, thus it came out in the form of composition, without prior intention. Some of them, however, I wrote by a divine order when the Real ordered me either in sleeping or by unveiling.

I will begin by mentioning the books that I have deposited, which are not now in my hands, nor in the hands of other people, as I believe, because I have not seen any news from that time (when they were deposited with that person) until now. Then I will mention the books that are in the hands of people today, and those which are in my hands but I did not put them out to the people, waiting for what the Real accustomed me by truthful divine mentation, which is the divine command on which we depend. From Allah we seek support.
