6.5.4 - Al-Fihrist Treatise (Damascus, 627/1230)

The Fihrist, or Fihris, is the index of books written by Shaykh Muhyiddin: Fihris mu’allafât al-Shaykh al-Akbar (RG 142). In this treatise the Shaykh mentioned many of the books that he could remember their titles at the time of writing in 627/1230, or shortly before that. In addition to the Leave that he issued to the Ayyubid King al-Mudhaffar, which we will talk about in section

efijaza shortly, the Fihris is one of the important sources that preserved the authenticated titles that are attributed to Ibn al-Arabi.

There are several manuscripts of this treatise, which was written by Shaykh Muhyiddin before 627, in response to the request by his disciple and step-son Sadruddin al-Qunawi, and it includes 248 titles.

In Volume III, we shall mention a comprehensive List of Books by the Greatest Master, including these 248 titles described in the Fihris, in addition to the other books mentioned in the Certificate or Leave that he issued to the King, as well as other confirmed books that are referenced in other authenticated sources.
