1.9.2 - Some Early Sufis

In addition to the many Sufi Shaykhs whom Ibn al-Arabi met in his life, as we shall mention them in this book, among the early Sufis, in the first centuries of Islam, are: Ibrahim Ibn Adham (100/718-165/782), Malik Ibn Dinar (died 130/748) and Bishr al-Hafi (150/767-227/841), who are known for their asceticism and devotion to worship. Other great Sufis who are frequently cited by Shaykh Muhyiddin also include: Abu al-Qasim al-Kharraz, famously called al-Junayd al-Baghdadi, or the Master of the Sect (221/835-298/910), Abu Yazid al-Bustami (188/804-263/876), Dhul-Nun al-Misri (180/796-245/859), Abu Mansour al-Hallaj (244/858-309/921) and Abu Bakr al-Shibli (247/861-334/946).
